ASUS is known as a manufacturer of laptops, desktops, smartphones and tablets. Car accessories though, not so much. So their recent reveal of the new ASUS RECO Classic Car Cam comes as a bit of a surprise. The diminutive dashboard camera features a fairly simple design, but packs some nice features at an affordable price.
First of all, the RECO Classic Car Cam comes equipped with an Ambarella chipset and Omnivision CMOS sensor with f/2.0 aperture and a wide 140-degree field of view. Surprisingly, it’s capable of capturing a lot of detail in Full HD, even at night. In case you do get into an accident, the built-in 3-axis G-sensor can trigger the emergency record function that saves a minute of footage that includes 30 seconds before and after impact, and locks it into a separate file.
For its Php6,990 price tag, the ASUS RECO Classic Car Cam is surprisingly full featured. At the moment, I’m using a cheapo action camera as my dashcam, but certainly wouldn’t have minded paying a couple of extra grand for this.
