I’ve only been using my personal Alpha Morph unit for a few months now, so it comes as a surprise that Cherry Mobile suddenly has a new Alpha series device on the horizon. The Cherry Mobile Alpha Shift, which has yet to be officially announced, popped up a few days ago on Lazada carrying a Php14,499 price tag. With an SRP that’s significantly more than what my Alpha Morph retails for, what has the Cherry Mobile Alpha Shift improved upon?
Performance-wise, there isn’t actually any improvement from the Alpha Shift over the Alpha Morph. The Alpha Shift shares the same 10.1 inch WXGA IPS display, quad core processor from Intel, and even the same RAM and storage configuration. However, what’s different is what it adds on top of that. Although the Alpha Shift already has built-in storage, it also has a whopping 500GB of additional storage in the keyboard dock.
One drawback though is that the Cherry Mobile Alpha Shift appears to have a smaller 6,300mAh battery versus the Alpha Morph (8,000mAh). I suspect that the keyboard dock probably accommodates another battery, much like the ASUS Transformer Series. However, until that’s confirmed, we’ll just have to assume that it doesn’t.
