Cherry Mobile Cosmos Force: Inexpensive LTE Phablet

Box Front and Back

It was only a matter of time before locally branded LTE smartphones started coming out. However, many of the affordable ones only have sub-5 inch screens while the ones that do have 5 inch screens or larger have been priced out of reach of the average Juan. Well, that’s about to change with the Cherry Mobile Cosmos Force, which sports both a massive screen and LTE connectivity at a price that doesn’t break the bank.

The Screen

The Cherry Mobile Cosmos Force features a 5.26 inch HD IPS display, which is a little larger than the cookie cutter 5 inchers out there. That gives you a much larger viewing area and you won’t have to hold the phone quite so close to your face for anything to be readable. It also helps that it will benefit from the typically accurate color reproduction and wide viewing angles of IPS displays.

The Chipset

An interesting thing about the Cosmos Force is that it doesn’t sport your regular quad core chipset. The chip that powers this grunt is a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 that not only gives it 64-bit capability, but LTE connectivity as well. However, there aren’t exactly any apps out there that take advantage of 64-bit computing. Heck, not even Android supports it yet. Well, so long as it doesn’t add to the overall cost of the phone, I’m fine.

The Rest of the Specs

For its price, the rest of the specs are surprisingly awesome. Sure, you only get 1GB RAM, but you do get 16GB of internal storage, not to mention LTE connectivity, and the usual slew of wireless connectivity options. You’re also getting an 18mp autofocus BSI camera on the back and an 8mp BSI camera on the front. Both are probably interpolated though, so it’s more than likely that the back camera just uses a 13mp sensor.

Value for Money

At Php6,999, the Cherry Mobile Cosmos Force isn’t too far removed from entry-level pricing. Yet by just adding a few thousand pesos on top of something like an LTE pocket WiFi router, you get a full-fledged phone with a large screen, LTE connectivity, and support for 64-bit computing. The fact that it comes with a whopping 16GB of storage, USB OTG support, and dual BSI cameras is just icing on the cake.
