Dual boot tablets are the latest craze to hit the local market, but if there’s one thing I’ve noticed, it’s that none of them have better than HD resolution screens. While not exactly a deal breaker, it can make simple things such as reading magazine PDFs a little frustrating. Shopping around on international online stores reveals gems like the Teclast X98 Air 2, a nicely sized tablet with a 9.7 inch QXGA screen (1,536 x 2,048 resolution, 264ppi) and the ability to run either Windows 8.1 or Android KitKat 4.4. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s priced at just $201.29 (roughly Php8,9k) on sites like Gearbest!
The Teclast X98 Air 2 is run by an 2.16GHz Intel Z3736F quad core processor with Gen7 Intel HD Graphics. You also get an ample serving of 2GB RAM and a whopping 64GB of internal storage. Of course, that storage is going to end up being split somehow between whichever OS the tablet is running. Also, both Windows 8.1 and KitKat 4.4 occupy a fair bit of space on their own, especially Windows, so that 64GB of storage might not end up feeling all that big. Thankfully, it’s expandable via microSD.
Another cool feature of the Teclast X98 Air 2 is that it can function as a phone as well thanks to its built-in 2G and 3G radios. You can make and take both calls and texts, not to mention connect to the internet without having to be tethered to a WiFi hotspot. The call and text functionality is limited to the Android side of things though, so if you’re in the middle of editing a document in Windows, you’d have to stop what you’re doing and boot into Android. Still, it’s nice to have and you can still use mobile data when you’re running Windows 8.1.
Of course, the specs are just one aspect of the Teclast X98 Air 2. In terms of design, it’s a pretty sweet-looking tablet. The bezels are just 9.5mm thin while the tablet itself is just .8cm thin.
Hopefully, one of our local brands will pick it up and start selling it here at a super-attractive price. Thankfully though, there’s no need to wait since you can just buy it from Gearbest and have it shipped to you internationally for just $201.29 and taxes.
