Lenovo P780 Says Goodbye to Low-bat Problems With 4,000mAh Battery

Today’s flagship phones feature adequate batteries that are enough for a day’s worth of light usage, but if you start using them for more power-heavy tasks like surfing on mobile data or playing games, battery life typically drops dramatically. However, the Lenovo P780 wants to completely eliminate this problem by featuring a battery with a capacity that is twice as large as anything out there. While most other flagship phones have batteries that are rated 2,000mAh or better, the Lenovo P780 is powered by a 4,000mAh battery, which just about guarantees you’ll still have juice left at the end of the day no matter how much of a power user you are.

Key Specs

Of course, the Lenovo P780 isn’t just about long battery life. It also sports a 5 inch HD IPS screen, 1.2GHz quad core MediaTek MT6589W processor, PowerVR SGX544 GPU, 1GB RAM and 4GB of internal storage. Imaging is handled by an 8mp autofocus camera at the back and a 1.2mp fixed focus camera on the front. The P780 comes with complete wireless connectivity options: Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi b/g/n, GPS with A-GPS and 3.5G HSDPA. Finally, it supports dual SIM functionality and comes with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.

Understanding the MT6589W Processor

The Lenovo P780 is a fairly complete phone save for the measly 4GB storage, but keep in mind that it sports the “W” variant of the MediaTek MT6589 chipset, which from what I understand is the same as the MT6589M variant and is also known as the MT6589W-M variant. This is the least powerful of the three MT6589 variants, the other two being the MT6589 and MT6589T. So while the MT6589Wprocessor might be clocked at 1.2GHz, same as the MT6589 found on most of our local quad core phones, the PowerVR SGX544 GPU is underclocked to 156MHz vs 286MHz on the MT6589.

Impressions

Still, the Lenovo P780 is quite the flagship, giving you a gorgeous high definition IPS screen coupled with ridiculously long battery life. A fear of running out of power while on the go is one of the biggest reasons we’re unable to maximize our phones, and with a battery that’s good enough to last 2-3 days on a single charge, you’ll never have to cut your usage short just to prolong the battery. At Php13,999, I find the Lenovo P780 to be a pretty good deal considering the specs and brand. What about you guys?
