Micromax Canvas Win W121 Selling for Less Than Php7K on Indian Retail Site

Micromax Canvas Win W121

Looks like affordable locally-branded Windows Phones might soon become a reality. Some of you might recall the Indian brand Micromax launching a couple of Windows Phones aimed at the budget segment. Well, one of them, the Micromax Canvas Win W121 has just gone on sale online at a price that will hardly burn a hole in your wallet.

Flipkart, the online retailer that is carrying the Canvas Win W121 is selling it for just Rs. 9494 or roughly Php6,800 after straight conversion. For that kind of money, you’re getting a 5 inch HD screen, 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 quad core processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB of expandable storage. You’re also getting an 8mp rear-facing autofocus camera, 2mp front camera, a 2,000mAh battery, and of course, Windows Phone OS 8.1 running out of the box. While Flipkart isn’t selling the Canvas Win W121 exclusively, it does offer one of the best prices on the phone.

Micromax doesn’t exactly have a presence in the country, but it does have the same OEM as MyPhone, one of our pioneer local brands. Seeing as the Indian market is an emerging market just like ours, it shouldn’t be a far off assumption to think we might see MyPhone or any of the other local brands to start offering Windows Phones here as well.

Back when I started MobileTechPinoy in 2012, phablets weren't a thing yet. I enjoyed the stares I got from iPhone owners whenever I whipped out my Samsung Galaxy Note at the time. I'm much more budget-conscious these days though and am perfectly fine with using phones from any of our locally brands.
