The Top 8 Games to Get Started on Your New Android Phone or Tablet

Found a new Android phone or tablet underneath the Christmas tree? Awesome! Rather than do boring stuff with it like setting up your contacts and changing the wallpaper, why not download some new games? Don’t know what to download first, you say? Here are the top games on Android you should be playing right now.

Candy Crush

Candy Crush Gameplay

If you’re looking for good, clean fun that doesn’t require awesome hand-eye coordination, Candy Crush is a no-brainer. Each level presents a grid of different candy where you swipe to get a match of three or more candy of the same kind in a straight line. It’s deceptively simple at first, but you won’t have to go far into the more than 400 levels for you to find out just how hard it can get. And it’s free! Now, you’ll know why your friends are always sending you Candy Crush requests for more lives.

Plants Vs Zombies 2

Plants vs Zombies 2 Gameplay

As if the original Plants vs Zombies wasn’t great enough, the EA-acquired developer PopCap released a sequel! Plants vs Zombies 2 picks up the reins where the previous one left off and adds a twist. Now, you’re battling zombies back in time! Like Candy Crush, it’s a free game, but you can pay to get upgrades and more powerful plants.

Dead Trigger 2

Dead Trigger 2 Gameplay

Okay, enough with the casual stuff and on to the more hardcore games. Dead Trigger 2 is a free first person shooter that brings much of the same gameplay from the original that pits you against the bloodthirsty zombie horde in a world where humanity is on the edge of peril because of a Zombie plague. The sequel brings a few new twists to the gameplay though, such as a slightly-altered control scheme and more difficult to kill zombies.

Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour

Modern Combat 4 Gameplay

If you want a single player mode that you can sink your teeth into, Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour should be on your list. It’s widely regarded as the best first person shooter and puts you and a group of other elite soldiers on a mission to find and rescue the world’s leaders from a familiar terrorist threat group. You even have the opportunity to play as the game’s villain! It’s a paid game though, but if you’re quick, you can catch it on sale as of writing for little more than Php40 on the Play Store.

N.O.V.A. 3

NOVA 3 Gameplay

N.O.V.A. 3 is the single reason Modern Warfare 4 isn’t undisputed as the best first person shooter on Android. N.O.V.A. 3 has actually been on the Play Store a lot longer, and it features a Halo-like world and gameplay. It’s one of my favorite and I regularly use it to test the gaming performance of any review phones that come in because the graphics are so good. Are you a fan of the master chief on Xbox? The game’s protagonist Kal Wardin is as close as it gets on a mobile phone. It’s a little expensive though, but well worth it if you can afford it, and it’s on sale right now!

Real Racing 3

Real Racing 3 Real World Tracks

The Real Racing series have routinely been some of the best looking racing games available on both the Android and iOS platform. The games have been so good, Apple would routinely invite them to demo their game on whatever new iPhone or iPad they were launching at the time. Real Racing 3 is the latest one that’s available to download and is has 10 real world maps and more than 80 licensed cars! It’s also free! If you’re a diehard Gran Turismo fan, Real Racing 3 should satisfy you just fine on Android.

Asphalt 8: Airborne

Asphalt 8 Locations

Real Racing 3 is a great-looking game, but it’s a hardcore racing simulation. If you prefer to throw realism out the window, Asphalt 8: Airborne might be a racing game that’s more to your liking. With as many ramps as there are in the game, your car will be flying more than it will be driving across land during races. Hey, it’s not called Airborne for nothing. And it’s free on the Play Store.

Arcane Legends

Arcane Legends Characters

Now, if you’re the type who likes to party up with a team of players to hunt monsters and loot, Arcane Legends is an awesome MMORPG. It’s routinely ranked as one of the best games on Android by various tech and gaming blogs. Choose from three different character types and use your special abilities to defeat your enemies. There’s even a pet system that can fight with you. Oh, and it’s free!

So there you have it. Those were the top games on Android. Have a favorite game you think should be in the list? Let me know in the comments 🙂
