Sweet mother of affordable tablets, Cherry Mobile has done it again! There’s no excuse for not having a tablet these days if you can get one like the Cherry Mobile Fusion Air for just Php2,999! Sure, there are a few corners being cut, but it covers all the basics and even runs with the latest version of Android out of the box!
The screen isn’t anything to call home about. It’s just a regular 7 inch WVGA TFT screen, most likely a TN screen to really cut down on cost. Most likely, it will have the same quality as the one on the Superion TV. It will do for basic browsing, gaming and whatever apps you might like to run, but if you plan to use it as a comic or manga reader, you’ll be zooming in a lot because of the low 133ppi.
The specs are likewise nothing special, but they do keep the price down and will still give you performance that is good enough to make the Cherry Mobile Fusion Air feeling snappy. You’re getting a 1GHz single core processor with a Mali 400 GPU, 512Mb of RAM and 4Gb of internal storage. In terms of wireless connectivity, it looks like all you’ll be getting is WiFi b/g/n. No Bluetooth or GPS. You’re also only going to get a 2,200mAh battery so don’t expect battery life to be especially good. At least it runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, which is more than I can say for a lot of the Android devices that are still in the market.
To be honest, there are already some tablets from Chinese OEMs that sell for less than Php3k, but this is probably the first time it has become as accessible as this through a local brand. Admittedly, there are a lot of better options out there if you spend an extra Php1k or two, but if your budget is really limited, you no longer have an excuse. So is the Cherry Mobile Fusion Air the Juan for you?
