Cherry Mobile Omega Spectrum is the Rio’s Brother from Another Mother

It’s only been a few days since the MyPhone was finally released into the market and now it seems that Cherry Mobile is about to respond with a quad core smartphone with 5 inch HD screen of their own. The Cherry Mobile Omega Spectrum may not have been announced yet, but it was spotted on a leaked flyer for the local phone brand’s yearly Cherry Mobile Festival. What’s interesting is that it sports nearly the exact same specs at the exact same price point!

So you’re getting a 5 inch HD IPS screen, 1.2GHz quad core processor, 1GB RAM and 4GB ROM. You’re also getting an 8mp rear camera, 2mp front camera, WiFi, Bluetooth and even USB OTG support. How much? Php4,999.

On paper, it’s a doppelganger for the MyPhone Rio, although the Omega Spectrum features a lower clocked processor. Also, it’s not specified on the flier whether it supports 3G data speeds. There’s every reason to believe that it was just an omission, but until the official specs are confirmed, we can’t be certain.

The Rio is already out so you’re probably not thinking of waiting for the Cherry Mobile Omega Spectrum. However, there has been feedback from several bloggers that the Rio isn’t as snappy as its quad core SoC would suggest. The overall lag is something I can confirm with my own personal unit, so if there’s a good reason told off on buying the Rio, this is it.

  1. One more reason to hold off on the Rio — reports that it does not allow moving apps to SD card. Let’s see if the Spectrum does the same thing.

      1. Any thoughts on why they’re not allowing this feature? I mean, enabling it isn’t really hard to implement and doesn’t raise the price. It’s a software issue after all. IMHO, installing or moving an app to external storage is an intrinsic capability in smartphones, so it’s frustrating to know they’re not doing it.

        1. They probably just took the software from a higher end model with larger internal storage and used it on the Rio.

          1. Thanks for the insight. You know this industry better than I do. Well, Myphone better come with a patch asap else consumers will take a detour to the nearest CM Kiosk to check out the Spectrum. This post title had me in stitches btw.

          2. Actually, that was just a wild guess but thanks for thinking I’m more connected than I really am, lol.

  2. Latest news of Spectrum is that it has Dragontrail & OTG. That’s pretty sweet. I just hope it does not come with Rio’s SD install issue.
