Evernote is a popular note-taking and productivity app that a lot of people use to create reminders that can be synced across different platforms like iOS, Android, Windows and Mac. You can use it to create mundane grocery lists or more sensitive reminders that you can share with colleagues and such. Well, if you’re one of the millions who use it, you’re going to want to change your password seeing as how malicious individuals got hold of users information, including usernames, email addresses and passwords.
But don’t worry, all of the information was encrypted, but just to keep things safe, you’re going to want to change your passwords anyway, right? In fact, Evernote is making it a mandatory thing, forcing all users to change their passwords directly at Evernote.com. As soon as you sign in, you’ll be prompted to change your password, and considering how a lot of people still use a single password across different accounts, you’ll probably want to do it right away too.
Friendly Evernote Tips to Keep Your Accounts Secure
Evernote has also issued a few friendly reminders to help keep your passwords and accounts secure, regardless if it’s an Evernote account or an account with some other web-based service:
- Avoid using simple passwords based on dictionary words
- Never use the same password on multiple sites or services
- Never click on “reset password” requests in emails – instead, go directly to the service
While getting themselves compromised may note be the best way to inspire users to continue to use their service, it is at least refreshing that Evernote is taking such a proactive approach to reminding and enforcing customers to change their passwords. This isn’t the first time that a major web service has been compromised, but not many of them were as forthcoming as Evernote has been in this most recent incident. It also helps a lot that Evernote is an awesome productivity tool that has made reminders and note-taking so much easier across the multiple devices we own.
