HTC One with Stock Android to Launch in 2 Weeks?

Shortly after the Google Edition of the Samsung Galaxy S4 was announced, it seems we’re getting news that HTC may be hard at work to release their own version of the HTC One with stock Android. Quoting various sources, Geek.com reports that the HTC One “Senseless” edition, running Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2, might be announced in as little as 2 weeks. Similar to the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition, which has already been made official, the HTC One with stock Android should start out as a US-only launch and be sold through the Play Store.

HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4

While it might seem simple enough to churn out a vanilla Android version of the HTC One, there are a few challenges that need to be overcome. For example, the Galaxy S4 is essentially a 2013 hardware refresh with a whole lot of software tricks, so installing a stock version of Android completely eliminates those Samsung-developed software features. HTC has introduced fewer such software features on the One, but will still impact the kind of user experience you’ll get out of it. For example, no more HTC Beats that bass-heads are sure to love.

Still, there’s also an upside in that a vanilla Android version of the HTC One should be able to receive updates as soon as they come out, just like the Nexus series of devices and the Google Edition of the Samsung Galaxy S4. So which one would you choose? HTC One with or without Sense đŸ˜‰
