Motorola Moto G

The Moto X may not have been a droolworthy device in terms of specs when compared with flagships from the like of Samsung and LG, it offered competitive specs for a flagship and a lot of sensible software features that were designed to enhance the user experience. However, if you’re looking for an even more affordable option, you might be interested in the Moto G. The Motorola Moto G has been the subject of quite a lot of leaks in the last month or so, but those leaks have finally been put to rest as Motorola officially unveiled the new phone earlier today in London.

The Moto G is a cut down version of the Moto X, featuring more modest specs and price point to compete with the low to midrange segment. It features a 4.5 inch HD screen, 1.2GHz quad core Snapdragon 400 chip from Qualcomm, 1GB RAM, and 8GB of internal storage. The battery isn’t that big at 2,070mAh, but this is a sub-5 inch screen we’re talking about. It also runs stock Android 4.3 and will be upgradeable to 4.4 by January 2014. If you’re into customization, the Moto G comes with removable and interchangeable back covers. There’s also a Flip Shell accessory, which is just like your ordinary flip cover type of case.

Looking to pick up the Moto G? SRP for the 8GB variant is $179, which is about Php7.6k after straight conversion and probably less than Php10k if it gets sold here. If you prefer more storage, the 16GB variant will sell for $199 or Php8.5k after straight conversion and about Php11k if it gets imported here. However, I don’t believe Motorola has any official retail partners here in the Philippines, but gray market sellers like Widget City, DB Gadgets and Kimstore are likely to have it in stock pretty soon.

The first phone I fell in love with was the humble Samsung Star. It was technically just a feature phone at the time, but it's functionality and user-friendly UI would often deceive me into believing I was in control of something much more powerful than its price tag would indicate. These days, it's the Galaxy Note that I play around with, but there's still a lot of tech that I can't afford. Boy, do I wish I had an unlimited bank account..
