Nokia X2 Gets a Spec Upgrade, Comes with New Home Button and Larger Screen

Nokia X2

The launch of the original Nokia X came at a pretty weird time. Microsoft was finalizing the acquisition of Nokia’s mobile phone making division and the future of the Nokia X platform was pretty much up in the air. Now it seems that Microsoft is willing to invest in its forked Android platform, as evidenced by the newly announced Nokia X2.

The Nokia X2 is supposed to be a bit of an improvement over the original Nokia X. However, the most noticeable improvement is any of the platform’s software features, but the simple addition of a button. More specifically, we’re talking about the “home” button, which the Nokia X2’s predecessor didn’t sport at all. Whereas you only had a “back” button on the Nokia X, you now get both a “back” and “home” button to navigate around the UI the way you’re supposed to.

In addition, the Nokia X2 also sports a larger 4.3 inch WVGA ClearBlack screen. The larger screen real estate should help provide a better media consumption experience. Of course, a larger screen also helps with message composition since all your typing is done onscreen.

Other key specs include a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 dual core Cortex A7 processor, 1GB RAM and 4GB ROM. There’s also a 5mp rear-facing autofocus camera with LED flash paired with a VGA front camera. Finally, the device will be powered by a 1,800mAh battery.

The Nokia X2 comes in the same assortment of colors as the original Nokia X and will cost slightly more. No news yet as to when the X2 will arrive here in the Philippines, so just stay tuned and wait for further announcements.
