Back when the Samsung Galaxy J was officially launched, it was meant to be a Japan-only release. It was disappointing that Samsung didn’t make it an international release at the time considering what a specs beast the phone is, but better late than never, right? Sort of. The Samsung Galaxy J has been expanded for distribution to Taiwan as of yesterday, so hopefully it will still reach Philippine shores well before the Samsung Galaxy S5 gets here.
So what are you getting, anyway? The Samsung Galaxy J features a 5 inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, which is the exact same screen as the Galaxy S4. However, the Galaxy J has a design that’s more reminiscent of the Note 3 rather than the S4. Also, the Galaxy J is equipped with a a Snapdragon 800 processor like the Note 3 rather than the Snapdragon 600 of the S4. It also features 3GB RAM, which is the most you can get on a phone at the moment. Couple that with a generous 32GB of internal storage and the ability to expand that further via micro SD up to an additional 64GB and you’ve got yourself a keeper.
Basically, you’re getting a Galaxy S4 on steroids or a Note 3 without the S Pen. Unfortunately as good as the specs are, this isn’t likely to see as much sales volume as the Galaxy S4 or Note 3 seeing as we’re so close to the much-anticipated Galaxy S5. If Samsung had rolled it out sooner internationally, it might have achieved better sales figures, but then there’s the problem of cannibalizing the sales of the S4 and Note 3.
Hopefully, the Galaxy J does end up here eventually. I’d hate to just rely on gray market sellers to import it here themselves. Would you get the Samsung Galaxy J if it did land here or would you rather wait 5 months or so for the Galaxy S5?
