Samsung recently announced the arrival of a new entry-level Android smartphone, the Galaxy J1, in the country. Priced at just Php5,490, you can’t expect even moderately powerful specs. However, it will get most things done and is a great phone to pick up if you’re looking to buy your first smartphone but would rather not break the bank while doing so.
The Samsung Galaxy J1 features a lowly 4.3 inch WVGA screen with a reasonably acceptable 217ppi pixel density. Under the hood is a 1.2GHz dual core Spreadtrum processor coupled with 512MB RAM and 4GB of internal storage. Camera-wise, you’re also getting the basics with a 5mp autofocus rear-facing camera with LED flash and a 2mp front camera.
The device is by no means the best you can get for the money, as there are quite a number of locally-branded smartphones that could easily beat it specs-wise. However, if you’re looking for the reliability of a trusted international brand like Samsung and the after sales support that it affords, the Galaxy J1 is a great inexpensive starter for those looking for the full Android experience.
