Sony Walkman NW-ZX2: An Audiophile’s Smartphone with 128GB of Storage

Sony Walkman NW-ZX2

There was a time when the Sony Walkman brand dominated the portable music scene. These days, it’s different though, but Sony is still looking to breathe new life into its once venerable brand by slapping it on a music-oriented smartphone with a whopping 128GB of local storage.

Sony Walkman NW-ZX2 All Angles

Of course, the Sony Walkman NW-ZX2 is more than just a smartphone with absurd amounts of storage. The device features a beautifully crafted shell complete with over-sized buttons to control your music playback. It’s also capable enough of decoding lossless audio formats as well as enhancing lossy formats, just about guaranteeing all your music will just sound better than on your typical music device.

Unfortunately, there are a few very good reasons NOT to buy the Sony Walkman NW-ZX2. First is that it only runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, which is a near-ancient version of the mobile OS. Then there’s the absurd price tag. Sure, you’re getting a 128GB WITH micro SD support, but I sure as heck wouldn’t pay close to Php50k without taxes just for that extra storage.

Of course, if you’re a technophile with money to burn and not necessarily that much of a gadget geek, you might not mind the outdated OS or sky high price tag. For more reasonably minded audiophiles, there are much better ways to spend your money.
