If 2013 was the year of 7 inch Android tablets, 2014 is the year of 8 inchers. And it’s not just mainstream international brands we’re talking about, but local brands as well. A few days ago, Torque announced the Droidz Mini Q on its Facebook page, a budget-minded Android tablet with a 7.85 inch XGA IPS screen, 1.2GHz quad core MediaTek MT8389 processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB of storage.
In addition to those fairly decent specs, you’re also getting 3.75G/HSPA+ connectivity and the ability to text and make calls just like a phone. Heck, it even supports dual SIMs. That certainly makes it one of the more attractive 8 inch tablet options since most of the ones from local brands only have WiFi.
Other key specs include an 8mp autofocus rear shooter, 1.3mp front shooter, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. I’m particularly interested in GPS since this would let it double as an in-car navigation system! No news on the battery capacity though, but the Torque Droidz Mini Q runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box and retails for just Php7,699.
