Twitter Relaxes 140 Character Limit, Kind Of…

twitter

If there’s anything I’ve never been quite able to master, it’s the ability to say everything I want in 140 characters or less on Twitter. Unfortunately, the microblogging social network isn’t actually scrapping the 140 character limit. However, most things that aren’t plain text will no longer count toward it. This means photos, videos, GIFs, polls, and Quote Tweets won’t have the huge hit against your tweet’s character count the way they did before.

Twitter isn’t stopping there, either. They’re currently testing replies that omit the username of the person you’re replying to. If you’re replying to multiple people, only the username of the person who sent the original tweet will be omitted from the character count.

These are seemingly small but much appreciated changes, and certainly they’ve been due for some time now. Of course, Twitter has largely defined itself due to its microblogging nature. At least now, there’ll be a little bit of flexibility when composing your tweets.
