Xiaomi Mi 4c is Officially Unveiled with FHD Screen, USB Type-C and $204 Price Tag

Xiaomi Mi 4c

Xiaomi is slowly beginning their product lineups, but when it comes to smartphones, they tend to be slow with coming out with new models. However, the newly unveiled Xiaomi Mi 4c isn’t just worth talking about because it’s a new model, but because it has a few tricks up its sleeve while maintaining the typically affordable price tags the Chinese phone maker is known for. The highlight of the spec sheet is the Snapdragon 808 processor, which is the same one that’s used on the LG G4.

The Xiaomi Mi 4c is one powerful smartphone for the price. The phone is equipped with a 5 inch Full HD display, which isn’t the best resolution available but is still quite sharp and virtually indistinguishable from 2K at that size. The 13mp rear-facing camera may come with either a Sony IMX258 or Samsung S5K3M2 sensor, with Xiaomi turning to two different suppliers once again to help keep up with production.

Edge Tap

The Mi 4c has an array of software tricks, such as Edge Tap, double-tap to wake, dual SIM 4G support, and Quick Charge 2.0 technology baked in. What I find to be most interesting though is that it comes with a USB Type-C port, which is still backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and such, but can also support the faster transfer speeds and higher power delivery that newer USB 3.1 supports. Oh, and it’s reversible.

As for RAM and storage, there will actually be two different configurations: 2GB/16GB and 3GB/32GB priced at 1,299 yuan ($204) and 1,499 yuan ($235), respectively. Priced in Philippine pesos, that’s roughly Php9.2k and Php10.6k before taxes.

The Xiaomi Mi 4c would no doubt be a hit if it were locally released now. Unfortunately though, the phone will be a China-only release, which will sorely disappoint the brand’s international fans. Still, things can change, or at the very least, an international variant could be released so non-Chinese markets like ours can get a taste of it.
