Cherry Mobile Android Sale FTW! (Buying Guide Included)

In case you guys weren’t aware, there’s actually an Android sale going on at Trinoma until July 2. Apparently, they’ve been going around some of their more popular locations with this sale every 2 weeks. I believe the last 2 week period was at Mall of Asia. You can get an Android phone for as low as Php2.6k (Cherry Mobile Candy and Candy Chat)! It’s a resistive screen though, but if I were to buy it as a secondary phone, I’d be fine with it. On the other hand, if you want a 1.2 Ghz phone on Gingerbread 2.3 for just Php9,999, the W900 Dragon Phone is the deal for you.

Take note that you probably won’t get the chance to test between phones. Companies like Cherry Mobile and MyPhone tend to have a policy where you can only test the phone if you’re about to buy it. I tried to test the Candy and Candy Chat before when I was looking for a secondary phone, but they wouldn’t let me. I ended up just walking away. So here’s a few pieces of buying advice for Android phones and tablets:

• If you’re buying it as a primary phone, stay away from resistive touchscreens. They require that you apply more pressure and can make your fingers sore after a while. As much as possible, go for a capacitive screen like those on an iPod Touch or iPhone. (Learn more about Resistive vs Capacitive here)
• As much as possible, get a phone that’s on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and up. Gingerbread is a much more stable version of Android. Some of Cherry Mobile’s Android phones are still on Android 2.2 (Froyo). It isn’t that bad, but expect some Force Close issues every now and then.
• If you can afford it, try to get a phone that supports both GPS and 3G. GPS is a handy feature to have when you want to find directions, but the maps will be slow to load on the road if your phone doesn’t have 3G.

Make sure you hurry if you want to catch these deals at Trinoma. Who knows where the next sale will be after July 2, or if there will even be a sale at all. Happy Shopping 🙂
