Entire 2011 Xperia Lineup to Miss Out on Jelly Bean

The best Xperia from the 2011 lineup won’t be getting Jelly Bean 🙁

Since Jelly Bean 4.1 was officially announced along with the Nexus 7, many Android users have been waiting for their handsets’ respective manufacturers to come out and announce whether they will be getting the update or note. Well, here’s some bad news for anyone who owns an Xperia Arc S, Mini Pro, and possibly every other Xperia from 2011. According to John Cooper, a product manager at Sony Mobile UK, neither the Arcs or the Mini Pro will be receiving the Jelly Bean update. Although no other phones from the 2011 Xperia lineup were mentioned, they all use the same chipset, so the intelligent assumption would be that the entire range would miss out.

Apparently, neither will the Mini Pro 🙁

It’s a shame really, since the hardware should be capable enough of running Jelly Bean. Jelly Bean is a much smaller update compared to ICS so there really is no reason for the hardware not to be able to support it. Still, Sony did promise us an 18 month software support period and both phones are just about at the end of that period. And at least they’re not like another popular manufacturer that went back on its promise of an ICS update after making their customers wait 9 long months for it. Also, no news yet on which specific handsets from the 2012 Xperia line will get Jelly Bean as Sony is still reviewing which ones will actually benefit from it or have capable enough hardware to run it.
