Xiaomi Mi Induction Heating Pressure Rice Cooker is Officially Launched! No, seriously!

Xiaomi Mi Induction Heating Pressure Rice Cooker

Xiaomi already makes a range of home appliances, from the expected range of smart TVs to the weird air purifiers. However, the weirdest smart product yet has to be their recently launched Xiaomi Mi Induction Heating Pressure Rice Cooker. Seriously, it’s a smartphone-controlled rice cooker that uses an app to scan bar codes to identify specific rice brands, types and origins in order to find the optimal cooking settings depending on how soft or firm you like it.

The Mi Induction Heating Pressure Rice Cooker seems like a weird product to be launched by Xiaomi, but the company is looking to push more into making new smart home products under their newly launched Mi Ecosystem sub-brand, otherwise known in China as Mijia. Their new rice cooker is just the first product under the Mijia brand, so expect more smart products to come.

If you’re looking to get one locally, don’t get your hopes up as it’s unlikely we’ll see the Xiaomi rice cooker outside of China. Still, at just 999 yuan (about Php7.1k), it’s much cheaper than similar offerings from Japanese brands like Toshiba, Tiger or Zojirushi so if there’s enough interest, our local gray market sellers might decide to do a trial offering.
