I thought netbooks had died an ugly death a few years back, but it looks like ASUS is keen on resurrecting this particular product category at the IFA with the newly announced EeeBook X205. The ASUS EeeBook X205 features a larger screen than the typical netbook at 11.6 inches, runs on an Intel Atom Z3735 quad core processor and delivers a Windows 8.1 experience out of the box for just $199 (roughly Php8.3K).

RAM and storage may be a tad limited at 2GB and an option between 32GB and 64GB respectively, but it’s still a better productivity solution than pairing your Android or iOS device with a Bluetooth keyboard, at least, in my opinion. You get a full-sized keyboard with chiclet-style keys, an appreciably large touchpad, and up to 12 hours of battery life. That you’re getting 500GB of cloud storage on top of that is just icing on the cake.

No news yet on when this might become available in the Philippines or how much retailers will be selling it for. However, based on how receptive our market was to netbooks, there’s a pretty good chance we might see this on our shores. If you plan on getting it, you’ll have a choice between black, white, gold and red color variants.
