So me and the wife will be watching Transformers: Age of Extinction this weekend. To be honest, I wasn’t too sure how well I would receive it considering it’s a reboot of the franchise without Shia Lebeouf. Then I saw the trailer where Optimus Prime rode in on an Autobots version of a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Let’s just say I got over that pretty quickly.
Anyway, four years after the Dark of the Moon episode, a mechanic and his daughter finds the Autobots leader Optimus Prime deactivated. On the other end of the world, a group of scientists backed by a wealthy businessman wants to learn the past of the Transformers. Enter the Dinobots.
Ahead of the premiere of the much awaited film Transformers: Age of Extinction, the fourth series in the Transformers franchise, Carmudi Philippines has come up with a list of the car models that star in the movie.
Optimus Prime- Western Star Protoype
The Autobots leader has really leapt bounds from a Kenworth K100 cab-over truck fin the original cartoon series to a sportier and more aerodynamic Western Star Truck. Optimus is still massive, sporting a flame paint job with massive chrome accents and a threatening exhaust stack. We bet the old guy will still sound good on that “Roll Out!” call.
Bumble Bee- Chevrolet Camaro (1967, 2014)
The beloved best friend of the protagonist of the first three Transformers films, Sam Witwicky, is back and now sports two designs- a retro and its modern version. First, the 1967 Camaro has undergone heavily modified restoration from its rims to the handle bars, worthy of a muscle car design. Second the 2014 Camaro coupe car, may be involved with a car chase scene, after all, who wants to waste its 323 horsepower and 5.9 seconds acceleration from 0-100 kph.
Drift- Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse
The Decepticon turned Autobot once served Megatron, and is one of the fiercest warriors in Cybertron. Now a Bugatti Veryron, Drift sure lives up to its name with its lightning speed of 409 kph and an acceleration of 2.4 seconds from 0-100 kph. The Veyron is the fastest convertible in history. Enough said.
Lockdown- 2013 Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4
The Decepticon’s badass bounty hunter is more ruthless than ever and has found his ability – upgrading himself from collected parts – to use. Lockdown is now remodeled to an Aventador with a V12 from the legendary Lamborghini Murcielago. And don’t get fooled by its “friendliest supercar in the world” tag. This car is a street badie to the core.
Stinger- Pagani Huayra
One of the first human-made Transformer, Stinger is a sabotage specialist and a spy for the Decepticons. In terms of the car’s dimensions, translatable to its robot-form size, the Huayra (wai-rah) is close to the Camaro. Could we expect, a beat down between Bumble Bee and this character? Only the movie could tell.
The Movie
Transformers 4: Age of Extinction has already premiered in local theaters last June 25. The film is directed by Michael Bay who also made the first Transformer series. So far the sci-fi franchise about alien robots have garnered $2.669 billion in box office sales.
