There’s just no letup is there? Cherry Mobile just keeps on going and going and going like the Energizer with all these releases and there doesn’t look to be an end in sight. Anyway, the local phone brand recently announced a brand new handset a week ago and now there announcing a new tablet: the Cherry Mobile Superion TV 2.
Examining the Specs
Cherry Mobile didn’t release any more details about the Superion TV 2 other than the teaser photo that you see above. However to Cherry Mobile’s Thailand website, we already have a pretty good idea what to expect from this upcoming release. The Cherry Mobile Superion TV 2 will sport a 7 inch WVGA display, 1GHz dual core processor, 512Mb RAM, 4Gb of internal storage and will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. Naturally, it will also feature a built-in TV tuner thanks to its namesake.
Also, being a Superion, the Cherry Mobile Superion TV 2 will have telephony capabilities and will actually support dual SIM functionality. What’s neat is that it supports 3G data speeds so if you prefer to surf the web on the go rather than watching the TV, you can just turn on your data connection and start surfing. No more having to bring along a separate mobile hotspot.
The rest of the specs are what you would expect from a proper Android tablet. There’s Bluetooth, GPS and WiFi, not to mention a USB port, though it’s not clear if it’s a micro USB port or a full-sized port. There’s also dual cameras: 2mp back and VGA front. The entire package is powered by a 3,000mAh battery.
Judging by the specs, I’m a little disappointed in the WVGA resolution and 3,000mAh battery. I think the lowest resolution that still looks good on a 7 incher is 1024 x 600. There are 4 inch phones that sport a WVGA resolution and it just doesn’t look that good anymore on anything bigger 4.5 or 4.7 inches. I also wish the battery was a bit bigger considering that the 6 inch Titan TV already rocks a 2,500mAh battery.
Still, if Cherry Mobile manages to price this just right, this would make a great budget option for people who are looking for a cheap tablet that can do it all. It’s certainly an interesting and more affordable alternative to other 7 inch tablets with telephony capabilities like the Huawei MediaPad 7 Vogue and ASUS Fonepad. So how much do you think the Cherry Mobile Superion TV will retail for?
