I was recently invited to the launch of Evolutive Lab’s Rhinoshield PlayProof Cases for the iPhone 6/6S and 6/6S Plus at the new Switch store at the UP Town Center along Katipunan Avenue. One of the touted advantages of the PlayProof Case is it’s able to provide rugged protection with hardly any bulk or weight. As if its ruggedized protection wasn’t enough, the local distributors of Rhinoshield have partnered with Pioneer to provide free Travel Buddy insurance with every purchase!
The folks from Switch were kind enough to give everyone in attendance their own PlayProof Case for their iPhones, me included. Unfortunately, I don’t have an iPhone of my own, but that didn’t stop me from trying it out, if at least on a friend’s phone.
Build Quality and Design
Rhinoshield made the PlayProof Case from their own unique polymer blend. It’s lighter than TPU that’s found on many smartphone cases, not to mention tougher. The matte finish also helps keep fingerprints off and prevent scratching.
Flip it over and you’ll see its Egg Drop in use, which is basically the shock-absorbing honeycomb structure that’s built into the case. 90% of its shock absorbing capabilities come from this structure, something I was able to observe at the launch event when one of the event organizers’ staff had their iPhone volunteered and dropped from about shoulder level.
In addition to being strong and light, the PlayProof Case is pretty thin, only adding 2mm to the overall thickness of the phone.
The case has a nice fit and all of the controls and ports are easily accessible.
The camera module is able to peek out unobstructed and thanks to the thinness of the case, the flash doesn’t end up bouncing off of it and resulting in an unintended glare in all of your photos.
So Should You Buy the Rhinoshield PlayProof Case?
Considering it’s being advertized as a rugged smartphone case, the Rhinoshield PlayProof Case is surprisingly low profile, keeping both the weight and thickness down to a minimum. It certainly doesn’t hurt that it also comes with Pioneer Travel Buddy insurance! As far as rugged iPhone cases go, the PlayProof Case is actually on the more affordable side at Php1,880 for either the iPhone 6/6S or 6/6S Plus. Would I buy it if I had an iPhone? Yes, I would.
