Update: The sale has been extended until May 1, 2013.

That fateful day has finally arrived. The much awaited quad core MyPhone A919i Duo monster of a phone now has a release date. And that’s not all! It’s actually going to be on sale for one day for just Php7,990, down from the SRP of Php9,590! So when can we get our hands on this gorgeous mother of a phone? Mark your calendars folks, it’s going to be on April 30 at SM North Edsa. Get your comfiest shoes on because it’s going to be another long line.

Possible OEM Device: Micromax A116HD

So why exactly is this a good deal? Well, as I said before when existence of the MyPhone A919i Duo first leaked out, it’s a significant upgrade over its predecessor. Yes, it still has a 5 inch screen, but now it’s an IPS panel with a resolution of 720 x 1280. That gives the display a clarity of 294ppi. To put things in perspective, that’s the same kind of screen size and resolution you’d expect from last year’s flagship phones, and you’re getting it for almost a third of the price!

You’re also getting a very capable phone with a quad core chipset running on Jelly Bean. In case you haven’t noticed, up until recently, all of the local phone brands had been launching Android phones stuck on ICS. Sure, there are Jelly Bean phones starting to roll out but none of the local brands have anything of this caliber quite yet. Yes, the Flame 2.0 has a quad core processor, but it doesn’t perform quite as well as the 1.2GHz quad core MediaTek MT6589 CPU of the MyPhone A919i Duo, and the PowerVR SGX 544 GPU is the same one that powers the Galaxy S4’s innards. The Adreno 203 GPU of the Flame 2.0 just doesn’t compare.

The rest of the specs are pretty pedestrian to be honest. There’s the bump to 1Gb RAM, up from 512Mb of its predecessor, but the storage remains the same at 4Gb, only 2Gb or so of which is likely to be user accessible. Still, it’s the sheer performance that we’re after and storage can be augmented via micro SD anyway. Other specs include a respectable 8mp autofocus rear-facing camera, 2mp front camera, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS with AGPS, and HSDPA.

This is a deal you guys will definitely want to get in on since the price will revert back to the original SRP of Php9,590 after the one-day sale. Php9,590 is still pretty affordable for a device of this caliber, however at that price point, people tend to start considering options from more established brands as well. Only time will tell just how well the MyPhone A919i Duo will perform in the market once pricing goes back to normal.

Back when I started MobileTechPinoy in 2012, phablets weren't a thing yet. I enjoyed the stares I got from iPhone owners whenever I whipped out my Samsung Galaxy Note at the time. I'm much more budget-conscious these days though and am perfectly fine with using phones from any of our locally brands.

Sobrang haba daw ng crowd sa SM edsa for this 1-day sale – definitely something for CM to fret over.

yeah, but not as long as the Flare Day line. Then again, the A919i costs twice as much.
