Looks like the Cherry Mobile ME Vibe isn’t the only surprise the pioneer local brand is opening the new year with. A new smartphone is going to be launched today, dubbed the Cherry Mobile Cosmos One Plus. The great thing is, even though it’s an octa-core smartphone, it won’t be rocking the aging MT6592 SoC.

Front

Instead, the Cherry Mobile Cosmos One Plus will be rocking a 2GHz MT6595M octa-core processor by MediaTek, paired with a gorgeous 5.5 inch LTPS IPS display protected by Gorilla Glass 2. You’re also getting a sweet 3GB of RAM for seamless multitasking, not to mention 32GB of internal storage, which you can expand even further via Micro SD up to 64GB if you happen to have one lying around.

Angled

As if all that wasn’t good enough, the Cosmos One Plus comes with dual SIM support and is capable of 4G/LTE connectivity on both of them. So if you encounter an area with poor 4G reception, you can easily switch to another 4G-enabled network without having to physically take your SIMs out.

Side

For smartphone photographers out there, you get a 14mp autofocus camera with a Sony IMX 214 backside illuminated (BSI) sensor to satiate your appetites. This gives the Cosmos One Plus better low-light performance compared to the traditional front-illuminated sensor. It also happens to be the same sensor used on the Nexus 6! As for the front camera, it’s an 8mp shooter with a fixed focus lens.

With Smart Cover

The Cherry Mobile Cosmos One Plus is powered by a fairly sizable 2,700mAh battery and runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box. The battery should lend itself to some decent up-time, but it would have been nice if it ran on Cosmos One Plus shares virtually the same design and materials used on the original Cosmos One, so the plastic is textured to look like the pleather finish of the Galaxy Note 3.

If you’re interested in picking up what amounts to be one of the more powerful locally-branded smartphones to hit the market yet, the Cosmos One Plus is available in black and white variants and comes with a free smart cover ala-Samsung that allows you to see screen notifications through a cutout made for the screen. The damage to your wallet will be a whopping Php14,999 though, but if these benchmarks are anything to go by, the Cherry Mobile Cosmos One Plus might well be worth it.

Back when I started MobileTechPinoy in 2012, phablets weren't a thing yet. I enjoyed the stares I got from iPhone owners whenever I whipped out my Samsung Galaxy Note at the time. I'm much more budget-conscious these days though and am perfectly fine with using phones from any of our locally brands.
