It’s the start of the school season again and what better way to make sure your child is prepared for the school year than to make sure they’ve got a proper phone? Of course, there’s no need to spend on something too expensive when the basics is all they need for now. Which is why the recent announcement of the Cherry Mobile Desire R7 Mini and Desire R7 Lite is so timely. You’ve got a couple of entry level smartphones to choose from, each retailing for less than Php3k!

Cherry Mobile Desire R7 Mini

The Cherry Mobile Desire R7 Mini is a budget smartphone with a slight resemblance to the iPhone 5, save for the capacitive navigation buttons. For just Php2,299, you’re getting a 4 inch display, 1.3GHz quad core processor, 512MB RAM, and 4GB of internal storage. There’s a 5mp rear camera with LED flash and a 2mp front camera for selfies. Unfortunately, there’s no 4G/LTE. Just 2G/3G data connectivity. The Desire R7 Mini is powered by a 1,500mAh battery and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.

Cherry Mobile Desire R7 Lite

If you or your child is looking for something a little bigger, the Cherry Mobile Desire R7 Lite may be more to their liking. It comes with a larger 5 inch FWVGA display and is driven by a 1.3GHz quad core processor. Unfortunately, you’re still getting only 512MB of RAM although storage does get bumped up to 8GB. It comes with the same 5mp/2mp camera setup but comes with a larger 2,200mAh battery. It too comes with Marshmallow 6.0 out of the box.

Back when I started MobileTechPinoy in 2012, phablets weren't a thing yet. I enjoyed the stares I got from iPhone owners whenever I whipped out my Samsung Galaxy Note at the time. I'm much more budget-conscious these days though and am perfectly fine with using phones from any of our locally brands.
