Okay, so Cherry Mobile has been milking the Flare name ever since the success of the original Flare elevated the local brand to new heights. While a number of iterations have hit the market since the first one came out about a couple of years ago, this newest one, the Cherry Mobile Flare S2, might actually take the cake.
Cherry Mobile has only started hyping the Flare S2 on its Facebook page, revealing that the upcoming device will sport a Sony IMX 179 camera module. Incidentally, that’s the same camera being used by the Nexus 5. And considering the Flare series typically low price point and we’re seeing the possible emergence of an all new Camera Phone ng Bayan!
The rest of the specs of the Flare S2 are decent but not particularly drool-worthy. You’re getting a 4.5 inch FWVGA IPS display coupled with a 1.3GHz quad core processor and 1GB RAM. It will also come with an 8mp rear-facing autofocus camera with flash and a 2mp front camera. Unfortunately, it still won’t run on KitKat 4.4 out of the box so you’ll have to make do with just Jelly Bean 4.2.
Still, the price is quite attractive. At Php4,699, you’re getting an impressive camera phone with some decent features. The actual model of the processor and battery capacity have yet to be revealed though, so impressions on performance and battery life are still up in the air.
