Update: The Cherry Mobile Thunder has been confirmed and will be an exclusive on Lazada for a week. Read all about it >>here<<

Thanks to Edriangelo Doctolero Paule, a member of a Flare user group that I frequent on Facebook, I’ve recently learned of a new wave of Android smartphones that Cherry Mobile plans to release into the market pretty soon. I’ve already featured the Cherry Mobile Burst, so if you haven’t heard of it yet, you can check it out here. This time however, it’s time to turn our attention to something a little bigger: the Cherry Mobile Thunder.

Cherry Mobile Thunder Leaked Flyer Shot

The initial spec sheet of the Cherry Mobile Thunder reads a bit similar to the Blaze, another phone in Cherry Mobile’s stables, except that it has a slightly smaller 4.5 inch screen and a 5mp camera (as opposed to the Blaze’s 8mp camera). Otherwise, it’s the exact same FWGA resolution, 1GHz dual core CPU and dual SIM functionality. The Thunder looks a bit more like the Cherry Mobile Titan though, sporting a similar shape and capacitive button layout.

If you find the Flare to be a little too small and the Titan to be too large, the 4.5 inch Cherry Mobile Thunder might be just for you. There’s no word yet though on when it will be available since the shot above was taken from a flyer that has yet to be released, but we do know that it’s priced at an affordable Php4,999. At that price, there isn’t anything from the competition that comes close in terms of specs and performance. The ones that do barely come close are the MyPhone A898 and Starmobile Astra, but they are also more expensive in excess of a thousand pesos. We’ll have to wait until it gets here to see if the phone measures up to anything else out there though. Thanks Edriangelo 🙂

Update: The Micromax A91 looks to be the likely OEM device for this one, but that’s just a guess.

Back when I started MobileTechPinoy in 2012, phablets weren't a thing yet. I enjoyed the stares I got from iPhone owners whenever I whipped out my Samsung Galaxy Note at the time. I'm much more budget-conscious these days though and am perfectly fine with using phones from any of our locally brands.
