Gionee makes some fantastic phones, but if there’s anything they haven’t done well with, it’s updates. More specifically, providing software updates to their smartphones. Well, this month, we’ve already seen the Pioneer P4 get updated to KitKat. While the Gionee GPad G5 already runs Android 4.4 KitKat, it’s probably a good thing that Gionee has made an OTA update available.
OTA updates aren’t always for updating to the latest version of Android. More often, they’re for bug-fixes and adding new features, which is exactly what the latest Gionee GPad G5 update does. It’s taken care of a few bugs, such as a random text notification bug, as well as a few other improvements. The entire update itself is 200MB, which is quite large, so I’d rather go in depth with that when I review the GPad G5.
