Update: Gionee has decided to pull the Gionee Pioneer P4 KitKat update temporarily. Don’t worry, it won’t be for too long. The update will just be delayed for about a week while they add a few new features and improvements to the software. No biggie.
Gionee has been gracious enough to supply me with review units over the last few months or so. One of those was the Gionee Pioneer P4, an entry level smartphone aimed at budget gamers. While the P4 wasn’t the perfect entry level phone, it has addressed one of its weaknesses, namely, the lack of a Gionee Pioneer P4 KitKat update.
The update brings a number of changes. Aside from getting updated to KitKat 4.4, which brings all the software improvements that go along with this particular version of Android, you’re also getting a new homescreen layout, improved typing thanks to new touch inputs, as well as improvements to some pre-installed apps (read: bloatware).
The announcement was made on January 14 through Gionee Philippines’ Facebook page. However, upon checking, not all P4 owners have been able to update yet, so it doesn’t look like a simultaneous roll-out for everyone. To check if the Gionee Pioneer P4 KitKat update is ready for your own P4, just go to Settings > About phone > System updates.
