Huawei Ascend P6S: The World’s Best Selfie Phone Levels Up!

Huawei Ascend P6S

The Huawei Ascend P6S has just been officially unveiled, sporting almost the same look as the original but with a slight bump to a few key specs. It’s a little thicker than the original at 6.5mm from 6.18mm while the quad core processor has also been overclocked from 1.5GHz to 1.6GHz (big whoop). It still features the same 4.7 inch HD display though.

The rest of the specs have also been retained from the original. It’s the same 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 8mp/5mp rear and front cameras, and the same 2,000mAh battery. The Huawei Ascend P6S even runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with the company’s custom Emotion UI running on top, just like the Ascend P6.

This incremental spec upgrade is rather disappointing, to say the least. In November, Huawei’s president announced that the Ascend P6S would come with an octa core processor in the form of the MediaTek MT6592. There’s no indication as to why they didn’t push through with it, but hey, if you’re buying a device that emphasizes prettified photos, pure performance is probably the least of your concerns.

If you’re looking to grab the Huawei Ascend P6S here in the Philippines, you’re going to have to wait a while. Availability is limited to China right now with no announcement yet as to when we can expect it to roll out to other regions. International pricing has likewise not been revealed, but it’s going for 2,700 yuan in China right, or $446 after straight conversion.
