Huawei Ascend Y200: Probably the Best Screen on a Budget Smartphone Yet

Huawwei Ascend Y200

There’s already quite a few really good budget Android handsets in the Philippine market right now retailing for less than Php6k, so the arrival of the Huawei Ascend Y200 might not raise any eyebrows. However, there is one important spec that might differentiate this particular budget handset from the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy Y and LG’s L3. The Ascend Y200 sports a 3.5″ capacitive 320×480 IPS display, which is a screen technology that gives better color reproduction and wider viewing angles compared to older screen technologies. That’s awesome considering the Ascend Y200’s SRP is just Php5,490.

I can’t confirm if it really uses an IPS display just yet since only one of the three tech blogs I read this from mention IPS specifically. Still, a 3.5″ capacitive display with 165ppi (pixels per inch) is much better and sharper than the 3″ screen of the Galaxy Y and the 3.2″ screen of the L3 at 240×320 resolution (133ppi and 125ppi respectively).

The Huawei Ascend Y200 is already available through authorized Huawei resellers in the country. Try looking around the SM Cyberzone in various SM Malls and you should be able to find it. If you aren’t yet familiar with the Huawei brand, they’re the ones that supply Smart’s Netphone 501 (Huawei U8180) and Globe’s Cloudfone Temptation (Huawei Boulder).
