Lenovo Phab 2 Pro is Officially the First Project Tango Smartphone!

Lenovo Phab 2 Pro

Lenovo has finally unveiled the much leaked and rumored Phab 2 Pro, revealing as well that it was officially the first Project Tango smartphone. There’s not a lot of content or applications yet that would allow users to take advantage of Tango, but thanks to the platform now being made available, mobile devices like the Phab 2 Pro will be able to become aware of their environment without having to rely on GPS and other external signals and let you interact with it in new and different ways.

Enabling Project Tango are a couple of cameras in addition to the 16mp rear and 8mp front shooters that are already on the device. The two Tango-specific cameras allow the Phab 2 Pro to detect both depth and motion. That way, the Phab 2 Pro should be able to determine where it’s at in a space, as well as how it’s moving.

Of course, the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro is an awesome smartphone even on its own. It packs a 6.4 inch QHD display, driven by a Snapdragon 652 octa-core SoC, to go along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. On paper, it’s basically a flagship class smartphone, save for the slightly underpowered processor.

If you’re interested in becoming one of the early adopters of Project Tango, it’s going to be a bit of a wait. A global rollout is scheduled in September, and there aren’t any specifics for a local release yet.
