MyPhone’s last few Android phones have been on the high end of the pricing spectrum lately so their latest smartphone is a bit refreshing. The MyPhone Rain 3G is a cute little bugger with just a 3.5″ screen, but it’s surprisingly powerful for its size. What I really like is that it even offers 3G connectivity at that price.
As mentioned, the MyPhone Rain 3G features a 3.5″ screen. The resolution isn’t anything to write home about at 350 x 480, but at that size, it doesn’t need to be. It’s also powered by a 1GHz dual core MediaTek MT6572M processor coupled with a Mali 400 GPU, which is a great combination that should power the MyPhone Rain 3G through most casual games and applications. RAM is limited at 512MB, but at least you get 4GB of internal storage. You also get dual cameras (3.2mp autofocus rear, 1.3mp front), a 1,300mAh battery, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean running out of the box.
One notable feature you might like is the TARA Anti-theft technology that’s been baked into the MyPhone Rain 3G’s software. It’s an app that allows you to remotely render the phone unusable while making it play “Magnanakaw!” over and over again. I kid you not. The TARA software is said to be hard to bypass because it’s at the chipset level, so rooting or reflashing the MyPhone Rain 3G just to remove it that way won’t work. The phone might eventually be lost or stolen, but at least all the thief will end up with is a Php3k paperweight they can’t sell.
The MyPhone Rain 3G is looking to be a solid device at the price, although for an additional Php1k+, you can start getting quad core phones with 4″ screens. However, if all you need is an inexpensive 3G phone that can play most casual games, this phone fits the bill.
