O+ Fab Turbo: A 6 Inch Alternative to the Samsung Mega 5.8

O Fab Turbo

A couple of months ago, O+ unveiled a couple of 7 inch tablets in the form of the O+ Fab 3G and Fab Nova 3G with telephony capabilities and called them phablets. While calling a 7 inch tablet is a bit of a stretch, there’s no denying the appeal of a tablet that’s capable of sending and receiving calls and texts. Well, it seems that O+ is keen on pushing the new Fab line of oversized phablets with the new O+ Fab Turbo, a 6 inch phablet priced at Php13,955. So just what are you getting for that kind of moolah?

The O+ Fab Turbo is equipped with a 6 inch IPS screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280. That results in a pixel density of 245ppi, which is quite good, although it’s not quite there with the best screens on locally branded smartphones. Still, this is a 6 inch screen that we’re talking about — one that will be held farther away from the eyes compared to phones with 5 inch screens and below. Also, the screen is an IPS panel, which is known for great color accuracy and viewing angles.

Under the hood of the Fab Turbo is a 1.2GHz quad core processor coupled with 1 GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The specific model of the processor or SoC hasn’t been revealed yet, but it’s likely to be the MediaTek MT6589. The only other candidate would be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 200, also known as the MSM8225Q, however between the two, the MT6589 is optimized for HD resolution screens while the Snapdragon 200 can only support qHD screens and still perform well. The 1GB RAM is pretty standard, but I like that the storage has been upped to 8GB since most local phones top out at 4GB or less.

The rest of the specs are pretty pedestrian. You’re getting an 8mp primary camera and 2mp front camera to take care of your imaging needs. The O+ Fab Turbo supports up to 3G data speeds as well as WiFi b/g/n. Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS with A-GPS are included as well. Finally, the Turbo is powered by a pretty large 2,800mAh battery and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.

No news yet as to when the Turbo will be released into the market, but it will reportedly start selling alongside the 6.5 inch O+ Fab Elite at the same time at the beginning of the holiday shopping season. Looking to grab the O+ Fab Turbo? Hopefully, your favorite color is black as no other color variants have been announced so far.
