While the Samsung Galaxy S3 is still enjoying its time in the limelight, it appears that development has already begun on what could be the next in the Galaxy S flagship series. Benchmarks for a device sporting the model number GT-I9400 popped up in Nenamark 2, and following Samsung’s model numbering conventions, this should indicate that they were testing an early prototype for the Galaxy S4. However, the device that was tested in the benchmarks was indicated as only having a WVGA display and dual core 1.2 GHz processor.
While most people would be quick to dismiss those specs and the leaked benchmarks altogether, Samsung has been known to use underpowered hardware when testing pre-production firmware. That way, the firmware can be tested early on before the next generation hardware arrives, ironing out any kinks in the process. Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy S4 some time during CES next year, or perhaps during its own separate event, similar to what they did with the Galaxy S3 when it first came out.
