SKK Mobile has really been pushing the envelope lately in terms of specs, features and pricing. They’ve been getting so aggressive that even Cherry Mobile might have cause to worry as they were previously the only ones who would think about pricing their wares so low. The emerging budget brand’s newest offering, the SKK Mobile Phoenix G1, is no different, offering a 5 inch IPS screen, quad core CPU, and intelligent features for just Php3,799!
The 5 inch screen is an IPS panel with qHD resolution, similar to the Cherry Mobile Flare 3 and Flare S3. qHD is equal to 540 x 960 lines of resolution, which might not seem all that good on paper, but you’re still getting 220ppi in terms of clarity. The IPS panel will certainly also help, giving you great color reproduction and viewing angles.
The CPU is another bright selling point for the SKK Mobile Phoenix G1. Under the hood is a MediaTek MT6582 SoC with its quad core CPU clocked at 1.3GHz. Paired with a Mali 400 MP2 GPU, the chipset is capable of delivering performance equal to a Galaxy S3. On MT6582-based phones that I’ve reviewed before, I was typically able to score around 15-17k in Antutu.
Other Phoenix G1 specs include 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM. Surprisingly, the micro SD slot supports up to 64GB cards. You’re also getting HSPA+, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS connectivity. The Phoenix G1 is powered by a 2,000mAh battery and runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. No news yet when the SKK Mobile Phoenix G1 will actually become available, but this particular brand doesn’t usually take months before it releases a newly announced phone to the public (shots fired!).
