Torque Droidz Motion: Quad Core Phablet with RAM-saving Technology

In case you missed it, Torque recently launched a lineup of Android phones and tablets for the budget-minded consumer. Among them is the Torque Droidz Motion, a quad core phablet that supposedly flaunts RAM-saving technology. Well, that got my attention.

Key Specs

The Torque Droidz Motion sports a 5 inch qHD IPS display with a resolution of 540 x 960. This equates to a pixel density of 220ppi, which is a bit on the low side but should still have a decent bit of clarity. The processing power is delivered by the popular MediaTek 1.2GHz quad core MT6589 processor coupled with the PowerVR SGX544 GPU while running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.

Torque Droidz RAM Saving Technology

The 512MB RAM is a bit of a disappointment, especially on a phone that costs more than Php7k, but Torque has been aggressively promoting the Droidz Motion’s RAM-saving technology, which we’ll look into in a later post. Anyway, the phone comes with 4GB of internal storage and can be expanded via micro SD card up to 32GB.

Other key specs include an 8mp autofocus camera with LED flash, VGA front camera, 3G/HSPA+, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS with A-GPS, and a 2,200mAh battery. Wired connectivity options include the micro USB port and 3.5mm headset jack. Finally, the Torque Droidz Motion is a dual SIM phone with support for dual standby.

My Impressions of the Torque Droidz Motion

Torque Droidz Motion

The Torque Droidz Motion is available for Php7,999. At that price, you’re getting a relatively decent quad core phone that cuts a few corners so it can stay affordable. While the screen isn’t the best out there, the chipset is certainly quite competitive and is used on many other locally-branded quad core phones in the market. I’m a little worried about the battery because it wasn’t specified on Torque’s spec list, but as long as its 2,000mAh or better, it should last the day.
