Archos 101 XS 2 Android Tablet with Keyboard Transcover Officially Announced

Archos 101 XS 2 with Transcover

Android tablets from French consumer electronics company Archos have come a long way from their Gen 8 lineup, which were slow, cumbersome and ran outdated versions of Android even for the time. The Archos 101 XS 2, which is their latest Android tablet offering, manages to deliver great specs for the price while including some innovative features too. In addition to sporting a 1.6GHz quad core A9 processor and 10.1 inch 1280 x 800 HD IPS screen, the Archos 101 XS 2 also comes with a neat Transcover, which is basically a keyboard that’s been built into the cover.

If the 101 XS 2 looks familiar, that’s because it’s a follow up to its similar-looking predecessor, the 101 XS. Naturally, the specs have been bumped up. In addition to the quad core CPU and 10 inch HD screen, the Archos 101 XS 2 also features 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, a micro SD slot, and dual 2mp cameras on the front and back. Thankfully, it runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.

I haven’t been hearing that much of Archos lately in the local scene, but they still have a presence so we might eventually get to see the 101 XS 2 here in the Philippines. No local pricing yet, but it will be priced at $279 when it arrives in the US in December. That’s about Php11.7k after straight conversion and should be a little more than Php15k once import dues are added on. If you find the ASUS Transformer series out of your price range, the Archos 101 XS 2 looks like a capable and more affordable option.
