Well, this is a surprise. Shortly after Cloudfone announced the Intel-powered CloudPad 800w, Starmobile came out and revealed the Engage 9i. The Starmobile Engage 9i will feature an Intel processor like the CloudPad 800w, but rather than just an XGA screen, the Engage 9i will come with an 8.9 inch Full HD IPS screen. Wow.
The Intel processor under the hood of the Engage 9i will be the Intel Atom Z2580 Clovertrail+, which is a dual core chip with each core clocked at 2GHz. In addition, it also supports hyperthreading. This means that despite the Z2580 being only a dual core chip, each core will be able to handle 2 threads at a time, allowing it to act like a quad core chip.
On the GPU side, it’s the PowerVR SGX544MP2 that will be handling graphics. Paired with a Full HD screen and you can expect the Starmobile Engage 9i to deliver some awesome visuals.
Other specs include 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, dual cameras (5mp rear-facing autofocus/2mp front fixed focus), and a 6,500mAh battery. The Engage 9i is WiFi-only, but at least it manages to keep the price down to Php9,990, which isn’t bad at all for a 9″ Full HD screen.
Of course, Starmobile is advertising it as the first and only Intel-powered tablet from a local brand, which could be the case if it manages to beat the Cloudfone CloudPad 800w to market. Thinking of picking one up? The Starmobile Engage 9i is set to hit stores in the first week of February.
