Sony Might Still Update 2011 Xperia Lineup to Jelly Bean

Xperia Arc S Might Get Jelly Bean After All

It was only a few days ago that a Sony UK representative confirmed on Facebook that the Xperia Arc S and Mini Pro would not be getting the Jelly Bean 4.1 update. This sparked speculation that the entire Xperia lineup of 2011 would be missing out, especially since they basically used the same chipset between each other. Of course, there was an immediate backlash from users who got upset that their handsets wouldn’t get the update even though the hardware should have been plenty capable of running it. Now, Sony has released an official statement in response to that.

We are actively investigating Android OS upgrades for all devices, but in the meantime, our Ice Cream Sandwich rollout for Xperia S and 2011 Xperia smartphones continues as planned.

While Xperia users how own handsets from the 2011 lineup shouldn’t get their hopes up too much, Sony deserves quite a bit of credit for making every effort to make sure all their phones from the 2011 Xperia lineup got a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0, with the exception of the Xperia Play. For now, Sony has stuck to their word in continually rolling out ICS and all we can do is wait and see if your Xperia handset will indeed be eligible for the Jelly Bean update in the future.
