Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph Running NBA 2K14

Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph

The Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph is an awesomely portable Windows machine that allows you to run all of your productivity software (read: Microsoft Office) on a device you can quickly stash in a messenger bag or backpack. It even abandons the bulky power brick that traditional notebook owners have come to loath. However, I’m sure a lot of you have wondered how it fares as a gaming machine.

Well there I was, review unit in front of me and I had just enough space to install NBA 2K14. Naturally, I was curious. NBA 2K14 isn’t exactly one of the most demanding games and if I dialed down the graphics settings, surely it would be playable, right?

Unfortunately, after running the built-in benchmark utility, I was a bit disappointed. The benchmark never hit more than 20fps at any given moment. Actually, it was more like 10 to 15fps. And when I actually tried playing using a controller, the lag was very noticeable.

Of course, it’s not all gloomy. If you head over to the Windows Store and download games that are better suited for mobile devices like tablets and smartphones. For example, Asphalt 8 played flawlessly with all graphics effects being rendered by the modest chip.
