While big-name brands have been dominating the rumor mill prior to IFA 2013, Alcatel has quietly outed a number of new phones on their website. If there’s anything Alcatel will need to go up against the likes of Samsung and LG is a flagship class phone that comes in cheaper than the competition. That is likely going to be the Alcatel One Touch Idol X, which features a 5 inch Full HD Zero Bezel Edge to Edge display, 1.5GHz CPU and 2GB of RAM.

It isn’t just the spec sheet that draws attention to the One Touch Idol X. It also features some premium materials and eye-catching design. The internal frame is made from Titanium alloy, which in case you didn’t know, is used in spacecraft and premium sports gear. The screen is also protected against scratches and blunt force by Asahi Dragontrail glass, and there’s oleophobic coating too, to minimize the smudging that results from a lot of fingerprints.

The Alcatel One Touch Idol X will come single SIM and dual SIM models. The single SIM variant will come with just 8GB of storage, while the dual SIM variant will have a more generous 16GB of storage. If you find the on-board storage to be too small, it’s expandable up to 32GB via micro SD.

Imaging is handled by dual cameras. There’s a 13.1mp autofocus rear-facing camera with LED flash and HDR support, while on the front, you’ll find a 2mp front-facing camera. It’s not like you’ll use the front camera for anything more than Skype chats or selfies, but if you want to record Full HD video from it, you can do so.

Naturally, network connectivity is fully covered. The Alcate One Touch Idol X supports 3G mobile data speeds, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS with A-GPS. It’s powered by a 2,000mAh battery and runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean right out of the box. Itching to get it? No news yet when it will be released since it hasn’t been officially unveiled at IFA 2013 yet, but expect to find it in Slate, Flash Red and Flash Yellow.

The first phone I fell in love with was the humble Samsung Star. It was technically just a feature phone at the time, but it's functionality and user-friendly UI would often deceive me into believing I was in control of something much more powerful than its price tag would indicate. These days, it's the Galaxy Note that I play around with, but there's still a lot of tech that I can't afford. Boy, do I wish I had an unlimited bank account..
