Starmobile Play

Just because local phone brands are coming out with their first high end octa core offerings doesn’t mean they’re ignoring the low end. Take for example the recently unveiled Starmobile Play, a 4 inch WVGA smartphone with 1.2GHz dual core processor that sells for an astoundingly affordable Php2,999. What’s interesting though about this particular entry level smartphone is that it throws in a few nice features that you wouldn’t expect from a phone of this price.

First of all, the Starmobile Play features built-in speakers from Yamaha for better audio playback from music and videos. It’s also powered by a 2,000mAh battery, which is something you would expect from a power-guzzling 5 inch quad core phone, not a power-sipping 4 inch dual core phone. Finally, the Starmobile Play supports up to 3.5G/HSPA+ connectivity, whereas other phones in this price range top out at 3G/HSPA. All in all, this looks like a surprise hit for Starmobile.

Other specs include a Mali 400 GPU, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage, and dual cameras (5mp fixed focus rear camera, VGA front camera). As for connectivity, the Starmobile Play has you covered with up to HSPA+ download speeds, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 and GPS with A-GPS. Looking to grab the Starmobile for yourself? It’s already available in kiosks and stores nationwide in a choice of Red, White and Blue.

About The Author

The first phone I fell in love with was the humble Samsung Star. It was technically just a feature phone at the time, but it's functionality and user-friendly UI would often deceive me into believing I was in control of something much more powerful than its price tag would indicate. These days, it's the Galaxy Note that I play around with, but there's still a lot of tech that I can't afford. Boy, do I wish I had an unlimited bank account..
