Phoenix WinTab 10

Up until now, the Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph has been the deal to beat when it comes to 10 inch Windows 8 tablets. Well, the recently launched Phoenix WinTab 10 has something to say about that. This Alpha Morph doppelganger doesn’t just mimic the appearances, but its specs and potentially performance as well.

Side View

The Phoenix WinTab 10 features a 10 inch HD IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 800. It’s not the best screen you can get for a tablet of that size, but it’s still more than serviceable, and the IPS display lends itself to accurate color reproduction and wider viewing angles. The device is powered by an Intel Bay Trail Z3735F quad-core CPU, coupled with 2GB RAM and 32GB of storage. It’s a basic setup for sure, but not bad considering the price.

For imaging, it’s pretty basic. You get a 2mp camera on the front and back of the tablet. As for wired connectivity, there’s a full array of ports: mini HDMI, micro USB (data only, OTG supported), micro SD slot, and DC charging port.

Metallic Finish

While the Phoenix WinTab 10 shares appearances with the Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph down to the keyboard cover, there are a couple of notable differences. First is that the WinTab 10 has a metallic finish on the back whereas the Alpha Morph is matte plastic. Second, the WinTab 10’s keyboard cover is sold separately for Php2,150. Hmmm…

I guess it’s really up to you which one you’d go far. The Alpha Morph’s finish is rather smudge prone because of the material and it never goes back to that brand new look no matter how much you clean it off. If that sort of thing annoys you, then maybe the metallic finish might be to your liking. That separately sold keyboard cover is a tougher pill to swallow though.

I'm much more budget-conscious these days though and am perfectly fine with using phones from any of our locally brands.
