Gionee Elife S5.5

Sorry Huawei and all you other aspiring title contenders but the recently announced Gionee Elife S5.5 is now officially the world’s thinnest smartphone at just 5.5mm thick! Of course, the thinness of the device isn’t the only thing that’s remarkable about the Elife S5.5 but the fact that it isn’t some underpowered offering like the Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra was when it held the title for a while.

You’re getting a 5 inch screen, 1.7GHz quad core processor (possibly Snapdragon 600), 2GB RAM, 13mp rear camera and 5mp front camera. The Elife S5.5 even manages to cram in a 2,300mAh battery inside the super-thin frame. That way, you don’t end up with a smartphone that turns into a paperweight before half the day is over.

If you’ve got your eye on the Elife S5.5, Gionee plans to release it in 40 different markets this year. No word on international pricing, but the 3G version is currently selling in China for the equivalent of $370. That’s a little more than Php16k after straight conversion and possibly around Php21k once import dues have been added on to the local retail price.

Back when I started MobileTechPinoy in 2012, phablets weren't a thing yet. I enjoyed the stares I got from iPhone owners whenever I whipped out my Samsung Galaxy Note at the time. I'm much more budget-conscious these days though and am perfectly fine with using phones from any of our locally brands.
