Starmobile Knight: Quad Core CPU and 18mp Camera for Php11,290!

The Starmobile Knight had already been unveiled to the public since their flagship concept store opening last month at SM North Edsa, but it has not been priced yet or cleared for sale on retailer shelves. While it still hasn’t been rolled out to distributors, Starmobile just recently revealed the pricing for the Knight when it was showcased along with : Php11,290. That might seem a little steep, however the Starmobile Knight sports some of the best specs that can be found on a locally branded smartphone.

Starmobile Knight Official Render

It has a 4.7 inch IPS touchscreen display with HD resolution (1280 x 720, 312ppi). It might be smaller than the 5 inch HD displays that are common on many of our locally branded flagship smartphones, but it does have a higher pixel density, which equates to better clarity. That’s not all because it’s also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass that makes it both scratch and shatter-proof. The internals are also quite respectable, sporting a 1.2GHz MediaTek MT6589 CPU, PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU, 1Gb RAM and 4Gb of internal storage.

What’s most notable though about the Starmobile Knight is that it sports a whopping 18mp BSI autofocus primary camera, coupled with an 8mp BSI front-facing shooter. BSI stands for backside illumination, which places the sensor atop of the circuitry so it can gather more light. This results in better shots even in poor lighting, and coupled with the high detail you can get from the 18mp and 8mp sensors of the front and back cameras, there is a potential for some great shots.

Of course, only time will tell if the Starmobile Knight will be a success. I’m always weary of locally branded phones exceeding the Php10k mark because at that price point, people start considering options from international brands like Samsung, LG or Alcatel. Still, there’s no denying the marketing appeal of a quad core phone with an 18mp sensor and there’s already a lot of buzz surrounding the Starmobile Knight.

About The Author

Back when I started MobileTechPinoy in 2012, phablets weren't a thing yet. I enjoyed the stares I got from iPhone owners whenever I whipped out my Samsung Galaxy Note at the time. I'm much more budget-conscious these days though and am perfectly fine with using phones from any of our locally brands.
